What makes a good Tarot question?
It’s exciting to get your first Tarot deck, open it up, flip through the cards and ask all the burning questions that have been filling your mind in recent weeks. The problem is, the answers that the Tarot gives you may not be accurate at all, and this will either confuse or delight you. Or worse… it could put you on the wrong path in life.
How to ask yes or no questions to Tarot cards
I have some bad news for you. The Tarot was never originally designed to give yes or no answers.
Originally, the Tarot was a game. It was a storytelling device used after dinner in wealthy households. It just so happened that the stories that were told actually predicted a certain timeline. Or a path in life that the querent could choose to take. When they proceeded on that path, and the story played out in real life, the idea of using the Tarot cards for prediction was born.
We all have many paths ahead available to us, and if we choose wisely, we can lead very fulfilling lives. So to ask the Tarot questions properly, we really want to stay away from closed questions - those questions that give yes or no answers. Nothing in life is ever that black and white, and the Tarot wants to tell you a rich, helpful story instead, so let it!
How to ask Tarot cards about someone else
Honestly, it makes sense not to ask the Tarot questions about others, even though you may desperately want to know how someone feels about you or what their intentions are. This is because everyone has many timelines that they could choose to align with.
Life fluctuates, and your future can change minute to minute depending on the thoughts you think, the decisions you make and the actions you take. It would be the same for the person you are asking about. It could all change in a heartbeat.
Use your gut feeling and their actions to get a sense of what their intentions are. There is a much better way to use the Tarot, which I’ll explain in a minute.
How to ask the Tarot about your future correctly
Many clients will associate Tarot with fortune-telling. It’s seen as a way to see what fate has in store for them. The truth is, this is a very bad idea for the client, who may live in fear of bad things happening to them, and the Tarot reader’s reputation - imagine if the client chose a different timeline and the predictions never came true!
One of my biggest passions is bringing Tarot bang up to date in a way that fits modern people, living modern lives.
The meanings in those dusty old Tarot books are a little dated now, and not a particularly good way to advise clients on their biggest life problems.
The types of questions I advise my students to ask are more like coaching questions than “What terrible things are in my future?”
I teach methods which go deeper and empower your clients more. If you’re ready to take the next step on your Tarot journey, check out this online course.
The best questions to ask the Tarot cards
The Tarot is an incredibly powerful coaching tool, and used this way, it is able to function in line with its storytelling roots.
Asking coaching-style questions empowers the client to change their thoughts, decisions and actions, and jump onto a better timeline without letting “fate” push them around.
Tarot clients get to create a new story for themselves - one that Tarot can hint at but that they must bring about themselves.
Tarot question examples for beginners and experienced readers alike:
If you’re not sure what I mean by coaching-style questions, here are some examples:
What attachments do I need to heal to experience healthy reciprocal love?
Will this promotion help me grow and add to all areas of my life if I decide to take it?
Where am I not seeing things as they really are?
How can I be more comfortable in the present until I find my calling?
How can I improve my life and finances on a practical level?
How can I apply my expertise to overcome this obstacle?
If I looked at this challenge from a new perspective, what could I discover?
What am I thinking about but not acting on?
How can I be more playful and open emotionally?
What do I need to let go of that’s blocking my state of flow?
How can I tap back into my sense of adventure?
Can you see how asking the Tarot questions in this way is much more powerful than asking for a yes or no answer, or asking how a situation will turn out?
We are here to learn and grow. Have no fear, the Tarot cards will always give you the most accurate, most empowering answer… but as an invitation to trust yourself and trust that you already know what is best for you deep down inside.
Asking the Tarot questions in this way will lead you towards creating a wonderful new story for yourself. A new story which you are in charge of.
