How many times have you nearly had a ‘Tower moment’?
(For those that don’t know, The Tower is a major arcana Tarot card signifying a huge life change… a change that can feel terrifying at first but usually turns out to be the best in the end)
The minor arcana cards might not be as dramatic, but they still show us significant steps on our journey. You can also be a little more flexible with the meanings if you’re reading for a client.
IF YOU SEE A FIVE IN THE TAROT SPREAD, IT’S A SIGN THAT CHANGE IS ON THE HORIZON
Typically, this change is interpreted as negative, but look at the other cards jumping out at you, too. Things might not be that dire after all.
Depending on the position of the Five Tarot card in the spread, something negative may have happened in the past. It could also mean that there is a life lesson to learn or an obstacle to overcome before things improve in your client’s situation.
If you’re an advanced reader with a more developed intuition, you may wish to spend some time working with the energy of the Fives to see what they mean to you.
When your clients visit you, they will often share their biggest dilemmas or want help with big, life-changing decisions. To help them, you’ll need to both explain what the cards indicate, and coach them towards their highest potential.
Depending on the nature of the reading, you may see the Fives crop up a lot

Let’s take a look at the suit-specific meanings of the Fives along with some transformational tarot coaching questions:
FIVE OF CUPS TAROT MEANING
If a Five of Cups shows up in a reading, it can signify that your client may be feeling a little disappointed about something. Perhaps a change has led to the loss of a relationship, or they may feel grief over something.
A good coaching question would be:
“What can you do to let go of this disappointment?”
FIVE OF PENTACLES TAROT MEANING
A Five of Pentacles can indicate the presence of financial hardship or loss. Perhaps this loss is in the past and your client needs to set a new course of action into motion, or perhaps something is coming up and your client can make sure they are well prepared in advance.
A good coaching question would be:
“How can you protect and nurture your finances?”
FIVE OF SWORDS TAROT MEANING
Is your client looking a little tense by any chance? If a Five of Swords shows up, they may be going through some sort of conflict or disagreement. Perhaps they have experienced a defeat at work, perhaps their mind is cluttered, or perhaps they can’t see another’s point of view.
A good coaching question would be:
“ How can you relax and tune into the higher perspective here?”
FIVE OF WANDS TAROT MEANING
If a Five of Wands shows up, it’s important to check out the other cards on the spread. This card can indicate conflict, but it can also indicate competition or a challenge. This could be a good thing for your client!
Remember the overarching theme for the Fives is ‘change’. Perhaps the current challenge will create positive changes in your client's future.
A good coaching question would be:
“What inner strengths and qualities will help you overcome your challenges?”
REMEMBER TO KEEP THE TAROT’S FIVES IN CONTEXT
They show the energy of change and you can use your intuition to read that energy and support your client in the best way possible. Emotional. Physical, mental and spiritual changes are all part of life’s journey.
