The Hierophant Tarot Card Meaning

What does The Hierophant Tarot card mean?

If you’re taking a course, or connecting with a group of people on a learning journey, you might see The Hierophant come up once or twice in your readings.

Traditionally, the Hierophant encouraged the querent to go and seek some religious guidance from an authority figure in that area.

That’s because the whole of society was set up around religion and the church. Pretty much everything revolved around it.

The Hierophant Tarot Card Represents Modern Mysticism

These days, The Hierophant can be your prompt to seek out the wisdom of another in any area of your life. .. although it will often relate to personal growth or gaining more spiritual knowledge.

Perhaps you’re being called to travel down the wisdom path of mysticism, or Kabbalah.

Perhaps you want to learn how to heal using natural medicine or magic. Perhaps mindfulness and other well-being practices are your calling.

(You might even choose tarot as a path for transformation!)

The Hierophant is always linked to tradition and the passing down of knowledge. This card is asking you to find someone who has knowledge and experience that aligns with your personal growth goals.

The Hierophant Is A Sign To Find A Wise Teacher

The Hierophant is empowering you to connect with other people on a similar journey to you and try to access wisdom traditions that will help you.

The Hierophant Tells You That You Do Not Need To Walk The Spiritual Path Alone

It’s ok to avoid pitfalls by following a path that someone has taken before you. There’s never any need to navigate life’s challenges alone… there’s always someone who’s done it before.

If The Hierophant shows up for you in a reading, you can ask yourself the following questions:

  • What spiritual or personal development paths am I drawn to?

  • What problems have I already encountered on this or other paths?

  • Where would ancient wisdom or traditional knowledge help me move forward?

  • Where can I seek out those experienced and knowledgeable in this tradition?

  • In what ways can I connect with others on this path?

Once you are connected with some guidance, it will be much easier to honour and respect the tradition.

This way, you can forge your own path within it, from a grounded, knowledgeable place.
